Prof. Youngchul Kim is an urban designer, licensed architect, researcher, and educator. He teaches the design, theory, and history of architecture and urbanism. His research areas focus on the history and theory of urban design and urban development, particularly examining human behavior and social responsibility in urban areas. He aims to contribute to the ongoing development of urban environments that help ordinary people sustain their daily lives. He conducts urban design and urban analysis considering smart cities and climate change, utilizing machine learning and artificial intelligence approaches to uncover the invisible characteristics of cities. He served as a commissioner of the 6th Presidential Commission on Architecture Policy of the Republic of Korea and, prior to joining KAIST, he was an assistant professor and served the associate programme leader of Master of Urban Design and Regional Planning at City University of Hong Kong.
